Over 450 Recipients Lose Flats as Muizzu Backtracks on Housing Pledge

Local News ·
In a surprising reversal, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration has revoked flats granted to over 450 individuals under the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme, despite their inclusion in the final gazetted list. The decision, confirmed by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, cites failure to meet essential eligibility criteria. This move contradicts President Muizzu's campaign pledge to honor all benefits from gazetted lists and refrain from obstructing allocations made by previous administrations. The Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, initiated by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, aimed to provide housing to eligible applicants, with 4,000 flats already completed and handed over. The government has announced that more revocations may occur as the flat handover process continues.
