Over 5,500 Runners Register for Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, a Record Turnout
Sports ·
More than 5,500 runners have registered for next month's Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR), Dhiraagu has said, after registration for the event closed.
Dhiraagu noted that this is the highest number of participants in the race so far.
The company said that the large turnout for the race, to be held on the 20th of next month, shows how popular the event has become as the biggest running event held in the Maldives. Dhiraagu also noted that although 4,000 slots were initially opened for participation, the space was increased in response to the welcome received from the public.
This year's Dhiraagu Road Race has been officially recognised as a 'World Athletics Ranking Competition'. As a result, the results achieved by runners taking part in the race will be included in international rankings, becoming achievements officially recognised at the global level.
The categories in the race, to be held at Central Park in Hulhumale', include the half marathon, 10 kilometres and five kilometres, in addition to newly introduced team categories.
The main aim of the race, which brings together experienced runners and those new to the sport in one place, is to encourage healthy lifestyle habits and to establish a platform in which everyone can take part, fostering the habit of running to maintain good health.
As in other years, DMRR 2026 is also a race dedicated to child safety, one of the main areas of Dhiraagu's CSR programme. The race will provide an opportunity for NGOs working in the field of child safety to raise public awareness and to fundraise.
DMRR is the Maldives' first international race listed in the World Athletics running calendar, with a World Athletics certified race route, and is also listed by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
This is a race in which, besides a large number of runners of different ages from across the Maldives, runners from various countries also take part.
