Over 6,900 Passengers Use New Male' Taxi Line in Opening Week
World ·
The newly launched Male' Taxi Line service has seen an overwhelmingly positive response from the public, with nearly 7,000 passengers utilizing the system during its first full week of operation.
Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed revealed the statistics during a press conference at the President's Office. Between June 22 and June 28, the service recorded 6,912 passengers across the Greater Malé region, with 3,569 of those trips occurring specifically within Malé. In Vilimalé, 528 residents have used the service since its introduction on June 18.
Digital integration has played a pivotal role in the service's early adoption. The majority of users, totaling 6,112 passengers, booked their trips via the web platform, while 800 utilized the dedicated call center. To further streamline access, the Male' Taxi Line application was released on the Apple App Store on June 2 and the Google Play Store on June 4.
Minister Saeed emphasized the operational efficiency of the system, noting that the call center maintains strict response benchmarks. During peak hours, calls are processed within five to six minutes, while off-peak response times drop to between three and four minutes. To ensure quality of service, taxi drivers are currently undergoing specialized training.
Beyond the taxi service, the government is developing a broader strategy to tackle the chronic transportation challenges facing the Greater Malé area. Minister Saeed stated that multiple authorities are collaborating on a comprehensive plan to address critical infrastructure issues, including road management and parking shortages.
The Male' Taxi Line was introduced under the direction of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The initiative aims to provide a structured, reliable solution to the daily commuting struggles faced by residents in the capital and surrounding islands.
