The two multi-storey parking buildings being built in Malé will be completed by November next year, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said. To solve the parking problem in the Greater Malé region, the government is preparing to develop seven parking buildings in the Malé region, including Hulhumalé and Vilimalé. With those buildings, more than 2,600 spaces will be available for four-wheeled vehicles and 1,000 spaces for two-wheeled vehicles, the government has said. Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today, Saeed said the building to be built at the Himaamaage parking site has been awarded to a party, and that work is under way to clarify the latest information with the contractors. Saeed further said that final work is under way to award the contract for the parking building to be built on the land next to MNU on Sosun Magu, as the second site, and that the hope is that the work will also be awarded to a contractor very soon. "The target for both these buildings, too, is to complete them before November next year," Saeed said. Saeed said this is a change that has never been brought before to solve the parking problem, and that it will provide a very big solution to the parking problem facing Malé.
