The People's Majlis on Tuesday approved a budget of MVR 133.5 million for the Auditor General's Office for the year 2027, passing the proposal after a debate on the report of the Finance Committee.
The Finance Committee had earlier passed the budget as submitted by the office. Presenting the committee's report, Funadhoo constituency MP Mohamed Mamdhooh stated that the approved budget is MVR 6 million less than the budget allocated for the current year.
The total budget of MVR 133,590,265 includes MVR 90,900,265 for recurrent and capital expenditure and MVR 43.5 million for the construction of the office's new building in Hulhumale.
For the ongoing year 2026, the office had proposed MVR 134.2 million, which was approved by parliament in full despite a proposal by the then Finance Minister to reduce it.
According to the law, the budget of the Auditor General's Office must be submitted to and approved by the People's Majlis before the state budget is presented.
