Parliament Unanimously Approves Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as Ambassador to EU and Belgium

The Maldivian Parliament has unanimously endorsed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's nomination of Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed as the Maldives’ ambassador to the European Union and Belgium. The appointment follows a rigorous review by the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, which determined that Saeed possesses the necessary qualifications and capability for the diplomatic role. The nomination, originally forwarded by the President on July 7, was finalized on the floor with 52 votes in favor. Saeed brings extensive legal and governmental experience to the post. Her distinguished career includes serving as the Attorney General under former President Mohamed Nasheed and as the Gender Minister during the administration of former President Mohamed Waheed. Most recently, she has served as the Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position she has held since April. In a separate decision during the same session, the Majlis (Parliament) also approved a dual appointment for Ahmed Sareer. In a unanimous vote of 53 members, Sareer was confirmed to retain his current role as the ambassador to Saudi Arabia while taking on the additional responsibility of non-resident ambassador to Bahrain. These appointments signal the government's strategy in strengthening diplomatic ties across Europe and the Middle East, leveraging experienced officials to manage key international relationships.
