Parliament Unanimously Approves Hassan Zareer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises

World ·
The Maldivian Parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of Hassan Zareer as the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises. All 49 members present during the session voted in favor of the appointment, providing the final legal endorsement required for Zareer to formally assume his duties. The approval follows a nomination submitted by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on June 8. Under the Constitution of the Maldives, all Cabinet appointments must be vetted and approved by the legislative body before a minister can exercise full legal authority in their role. Before reaching the full house for a vote, the nomination underwent a rigorous review process by Parliament's Government Oversight Committee. After examining Zareer's qualifications and professional background, the committee issued a unanimous recommendation for his approval, which was then presented to the Majlis for the final decision. Hassan Zareer brings extensive financial expertise to the Ministry. He previously held high-ranking leadership roles at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), serving as both Deputy Commissioner General and Commissioner General. His professional experience is backed by strong academic credentials, including a Bachelor of Accounting and a Master of Science in Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). With this parliamentary mandate now secured, Zareer takes the helm of one of the government's most critical portfolios, overseeing the nation's fiscal policy and the management of state-owned enterprises at a pivotal time for the country's economic administration.
