Parliament Unanimously Approves Jameela Ali Khalid as Ambassador to the UK

The Maldivian Parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldives’ ambassador to the United Kingdom. All 59 members present at the sitting voted in favor of the appointment following a recommendation from the Foreign Relations Committee. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu submitted the nomination in accordance with the Maldives Foreign Service Act, which mandates parliamentary approval for ambassadors and non-resident diplomats assigned to countries where the Maldives maintains official representation. The diplomatic post in London became vacant after the previous ambassador, Iruthishaam Adam, was appointed by President Muizzu as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Jameela brings extensive diplomatic and administrative experience to the role. She previously served as the Maldives' ambassador to Germany and held the position of Vice President of the Civil Service Commission, providing her with a deep background in both international relations and domestic governance. The approval marks a key step in maintaining the Maldives' diplomatic presence in one of its most critical international partnerships, ensuring continuity in bilateral relations between Malé and London.
