Parliament Unanimously Approves Three Non-Resident Ambassadors to Expand Global Diplomacy
World ·
The Maldivian Parliament has unanimously approved the appointment of three non-resident ambassadors to strengthen the nation's diplomatic presence in South Africa, the Czech Republic, Mauritania, and Kenya.
The decision came after a vote in which all 64 participating members of the Majlis cast their support, reflecting a rare moment of total consensus in the legislative body. These appointments are part of a strategic effort to expand the Maldives' international reach and foster stronger bilateral relations with emerging partners across Africa and Europe.
Hala Hameed, representing Henveyru Meenaz, has been appointed as the non-resident Ambassador to South Africa. Her role will focus on enhancing ties with one of Africa's most influential economies.
Aminath Abdulla Didi, hailing from Gulzaar in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, will serve as the non-resident Ambassador to the Czech Republic. This appointment aims to solidify Maldivian diplomatic engagement within Central Europe.
Additionally, Ameen Javid Faisal of Henvery Athireege has been tasked with a dual role. He will serve as the non-resident Ambassador to both the Republic of Mauritania and Kenya, managing diplomatic affairs for the Maldives across two key East and West African nations.
Non-resident ambassadors provide a cost-effective means for the Maldives to maintain official diplomatic channels and pursue strategic interests in countries where a full permanent embassy is not currently feasible. By diversifying its diplomatic corps, the Maldives seeks to enhance its visibility on the global stage and open new avenues for trade, tourism, and political cooperation.
