PDP's Next Goal: Creating Entrepreneurs, 80 Guesthouses in Thoddoo from Previous Govt
Politics ·
Former MP for Dhaandoo constituency, Yaqoob Abdulla, has stated that the previous government created more than 80 guesthouse businesses in Alif Alif Atoll's Thoddoo, highlighting the next phase of development is to build capable people and entrepreneurs.
Speaking on SS TV's 'Bar Hatheru' program, Yaqoob said that under previous PDP governments, basic infrastructure such as water, sewage, electricity, ports, and schools were established in almost all islands. The next stage, he said, is to create entrepreneurs, noting that citizens can earn higher incomes than salaries through business creation, with resources allocated via the PSIP in the government budget.
Yaqoob highlighted Thoddoo as an example, noting that although the island was previously known for agriculture, it is now famous for tourism, and the guesthouse business has progressed the most there. He credited the SME Bank (SDFC) for facilitating the creation of more than 80 guesthouse businesses in Thoddoo alone, adding that many others across the country have also entered the business sector anew with its assistance.
He also noted that former Minister of Economic Affairs and former PDP Chairperson Faizal Ismail, who is contesting the PDP presidential ticket, has stated he would create 10,000 entrepreneurs. Yaqoob said Faizal has been advocating most strongly for entrepreneurship since expressing interest in the presidential primary.
