People's Majlis session cancelled; next sitting set for Monday

The People's Majlis session scheduled for today has been cancelled, and the next session will be held on Monday, 19 October, the People's Majlis Secretariat said. The announcement followed yesterday's sitting, when Deputy Speaker Ahmed Saleem, Member for Eydhafushi Constituency, said as the session came to a close that the next People's Majlis session would be held on Wednesday, 14 October. The Majlis Secretariat has not given a reason for cancelling today's scheduled session. Since the current term of the People's Majlis began, not many tasks have been scheduled for the Majlis chamber. First readings have been completed for the two bills taken forward in the chamber during this term, and both bills have been accepted by the Majlis and referred to committees for review. One bill is the Bill on Taking Property Obtained by Crime to the State, which was referred to the Judiciary Committee. The second is the Bill to Amend the Criminal Procedure Code, which was accepted by the Majlis in yesterday's session and referred to the Judiciary Committee.
