Picnic islands for every atoll included in 2027 budget

Finance Minister Hassan Zareer announced today that the 2027 state budget will include funding to develop a picnic island in every atoll of the Maldives. Presenting the proposed budget to the People's Majlis, Minister Zareer said the government prioritises building a healthy and happy society. "To provide an opportunity for families and friends to spend time together and enjoy themselves, a budget will be allocated to develop a picnic island in every atoll of the country," he stated. The Finance Minister did not specify how much of the proposed 59.7 billion Rufiyaa budget will be set aside for this purpose. President Mohamed Muizzu had announced last August that the government would quickly start a project to develop a special picnic island in all atolls. He previously stated the project would begin after research and Cabinet discussion, and that it is meant to bring joy to the people.
