PNC Gains Over 5,000 New Members in Six Months, Solidifies Dominance in Maldives Politics

Politics ·
The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has added more than 5,000 new members over the past six months, reinforcing its position as the largest political party in the Maldives. According to membership statistics released by the Elections Commission (EC), the PNC now boasts 74,048 members, up from 68,665 in June 2025. During the same period, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) saw a marginal increase from 43,765 to 43,784 members, while the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) grew from 9,011 to 9,686 members. In contrast, several other parties experienced declines, including the Adhaalath Party, Jumhoory Party, Maldives National Party, and People’s National Front. The PNC’s rapid growth comes amid concerns over irregularities in party membership processes, with allegations of individuals being registered without consent. The party has publicly stated its goal of reaching 100,000 members.
