PNC Senate Unanimously Urges President Muizzu to Seek Second Term

The Senate of the People’s National Congress (PNC) has unanimously passed a resolution calling on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to contest for a second term in office. The decision follows a decisive show of party unity and support for the President's current administrative direction. The resolution was formalized during a special Senate meeting, convened following the party's congress. During that gathering, 1,119 members voted in favor of awarding the party's presidential ticket to President Muizzu for the next election cycle, signaling a strong mandate from the party base. Party officials stated that the resolution is a direct reflection of widespread public support and a recognition of the President’s achievements in national development and governance since assuming office. They emphasized that the move aligns the party's leadership with the perceived needs of the citizenry. High-ranking government officials provided strong endorsements for the motion during the session. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef praised the President's leadership, arguing that national stability, enhanced security, and the preservation of the Maldives' Islamic identity are critical reasons for securing a second term. Vice President Latheef further noted that the current administration has established a robust foundation for the future by empowering the youth while remaining anchored in traditional Islamic guidance. Supporting this view, the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, described the resolution as one of the most significant actions ever taken by the PNC Senate. He asserted that maintaining President Muizzu’s current trajectory is the most beneficial path for the prosperity, progress, and overall well-being of the Maldivian people.
