PNC Vows Protest Movement Against MPP Will Continue Until People's Demands Are Met
Politics ·
The People's National Congress (PNC) has said its protest movement against the MPP leadership will continue until the demands of the people are fulfilled, according to a statement from the party's spokesperson.
The spokesperson said the movement, which has been calling for early parliamentary elections since the establishment of the government, will not be halted. The PNC added that it has been working to mobilise public opinion and to organise peaceful protests against the ruling party's policies.
Speaking on the political situation, the spokesperson said the PNC has consistently called for accountability and for early parliamentary elections, and that these demands have gained broader support from opposition parties and civil society.
The PNC president has been leading the opposition coalition, which includes parties such as Adhaalath, PNPP and DHP, in calling for reforms. According to the statement, the MPP government has been criticised for failing to address parliamentary issues and for its handling of economic matters.
The spokesperson said the PNC is committed to continuing the protest movement and that the party will not cease its efforts until early parliamentary elections are called. The MPP leadership has been accused of delaying necessary reforms and of undermining democratic institutions.
The PNC president emphasised that the protest movement is not partisan but a national movement for accountability and democratic reform. The movement will continue, the party said, as long as the government fails to address parliamentary reforms and the demands of the people.
The spokesperson also addressed concerns over the MPP government's media restrictions and called for freedom of expression and assembly. The PNC said it is working with other parties to form a united opposition front to challenge the government's policies.
The MPP government has responded by criticising the PNC's protest movement, calling it politically motivated. However, the PNC spokesperson maintained that the movement is legitimate and supported by the people.
