Sports ·
Police Club moved to the brink of the national championship after a dominant straight-sets victory over City Friends Club in the National Volleyball League women's division on Tuesday. Playing at the Social Center indoor court, Police Club won 14-25, 19-25, 23-25, controlling the match from start to finish with experienced players capitalizing at every opportunity. The first set was particularly one-sided as Police Club denied City Friends any chance to settle. City Friends fought back in the second set, taking the lead several times, but Police Club’s composure under pressure saw them through. In the third set, City Friends built a comfortable lead and looked set to force a fourth set, but Police Club mounted a late comeback to seal the match. With this result, Police Club have won two of their three matches so far, while City Friends have lost all three and are effectively out of the tournament. The league continues on Sunday with Huraa Community Club facing City Friends Club in the women’s division, followed by Club Wamco against Club MTCC. Tomorrow’s matches will be in the men’s division, with Club HDC taking on Club MTCC and Police Club facing the Maldives National Defence Force Club.
