Police Commissioner Honours 117 Officers for Solving Major Criminal Cases

The Maldives Police Service has honored 117 personnel for their critical roles in investigating and resolving high-profile criminal cases over the last five years. The recognition took place during a special ceremony held at the Iskandharu Barracks, where officers received commemorative plaques and certificates for their service. The awardees were primarily from the Central Investigation Command (CIC), though the honors also extended to officers currently serving in other departments whose previous contributions to major investigations were pivotal to their success. Addressing the officers, Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed praised their investigative precision and unwavering dedication. He emphasized that the meticulous attention to detail and collaborative spirit demonstrated by these teams are essential for the successful completion of complex criminal probes. Commissioner Mohamed noted that the work of these investigators is fundamental to ensuring justice, maintaining community safety, and bolstering public confidence in the national police service. While this event specifically highlighted the achievements of the CIC, the Commissioner assured the force that outstanding service across other specialized fields would be recognized in future ceremonies, signaling a broader commitment to rewarding excellence within the ranks. The event was attended by senior leadership, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Faruhaadh Fikuree. In a parallel effort to modernize the force's capabilities, two officers from the Maldives Police Service recently represented the nation at the INTERPOL Digital Security Challenge, known as the Cyber Games. Held in Marrakech from May 19 to 21, the international event focused on equipping law enforcement with the technical skills necessary to combat the rise of cybercrime and sophisticated online fraud. According to the MPS, the training provided these officers with advanced expertise in managing evidence, conducting suspect interrogations, and coordinating international legal assistance to dismantle fraud networks. The police service stated that participating in such global programs is vital for enhancing technical expertise and fostering the exchange of intelligence with foreign experts, directly strengthening the Maldives' capacity to tackle digital crimes.
