Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed has committed to establishing a professional environment within the Maldives Police Service that is entirely free from discrimination, focusing specifically on the empowerment of female officers. Speaking at the opening session of the third Maldives Women in Policing Committee forum, the Commissioner stated that transforming the police service into an institution that ensures the safety and security of all society remains a key priority of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Commissioner Mohamed highlighted that the capability, professionalism, and courage of female officers are evident across all facets of policing. He emphasized that women play a critical role in fostering trust and confidence within the community, particularly when handling sensitive cases involving women and children. According to the Commissioner, the empathy and depth of understanding provided by female officers significantly enhance the efficiency and quality of police operations. He reiterated that the institution's primary objective is to ensure an inclusive workspace where every officer is treated equally, regardless of gender. As part of this reform, the Police Commissioner announced a strategic shift to increase the representation of women in leadership positions and decision-making processes. He pledged to identify and remove the systemic barriers that have previously hindered female officers from advancing in their careers. “Our aim is to ensure an inclusive and equal environment within the police service, free from discrimination,” Commissioner Mohamed stated. “We will continue to prioritise increasing the participation of female officers in leadership and decision-making roles, removing barriers they face, and creating more opportunities for them.” The Commissioner concluded by expressing confidence that the Maldives Police Service is moving toward a future where new professional pathways are accessible to all, ensuring equal opportunities for every officer to serve the nation.
