Police Commissioner: Quality of Service Depends on Community Ties, Not Officer Numbers

National ·
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammad today inaugurated a new police station in Kumundhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner stated that the quality of service provided to the public does not depend solely on the number of police officers deployed. Instead, he emphasised the importance of working closely with the community, with kindness and wisdom, while fulfilling legal responsibilities. The Commissioner noted that in the past, police services in the atolls relied on rented spaces or council offices, but with new permanent stations, a new era of service has begun. He assured the public that even when operational priorities are addressed, the police will not neglect any legal duties. He also said that as recruitment increases, the number of officers in Kumundhoo will grow. Commissioner Muhammad reiterated that the key to maintaining a peaceful environment is not the count of officers, but the friendly and responsible engagement with the community.
