In a significant crackdown on crime, the Maldives Police Service has recovered more than 100 stolen motorcycles in just one month. According to statistics from the Male' Frontline Policing departments, 109 motorcycles valued at approximately MVR 6.8 million were successfully retrieved during recent operations.
The recovery operation yielded additional items including MVR 588,822.76 in cash connected to 20 different cases, 13 mobile phones worth MVR 154,562, electronic goods valued at MVR 32,300, and miscellaneous items totaling MVR 43,115. As part of their intensive efforts, police conducted checks at 27,464 locations and questioned 5,264 individuals, with 4,776 of those stopped having prior criminal records.
This operation comes amid broader efforts to combat theft, which remains one of the most frequently reported crimes in the Maldives alongside traffic incidents and drug-related offenses. Recent data shows promising trends, with theft cases dropping from 327 in August to 230 in September, and overall crime rates showing improvement under new policing initiatives.
