Police Search Sunny’s House Amid Ongoing Sexual Abuse Investigation

Dr. Hussain Sunny Umar, a prominent figure in the tourism marketing sector, was brought to Male’ in police custody on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into sexual abuse allegations against him. Sunny, who is currently under arrest, was escorted to his wife’s residence, H. Andhunge, where police conducted a search in his presence. The operation, carried out under a court order, saw a significant police presence in the area. As officers attempted to escort Sunny out of the house around 3:00 PM, a confrontation erupted between the police and individuals attempting to attack him. In a subsequent statement, the Maldives Police Service confirmed that Sunny remains in custody and that the search was part of the investigation into allegations involving multiple minors. Sunny was initially arrested on December 2nd while attempting to flee the country and has since been remanded in custody pending trial. Media reports suggest that Sunny is accused of sexually assaulting three children related to his wife, including a girl and a boy under the age of 18.
