President Appoints Referendum Vote on Combining Presidential and Parliamentary Elections

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed a referendum vote to explore the possibility of holding the presidential and parliamentary elections on the same date. The vote will take place on April 4, coinciding with the council elections. The proposal includes extending the current parliamentary term to December 2028 and combining the elections for 2028 and 2029. The government has allocated MVR 80 million for this initiative. The Elections Commission has been tasked with organizing the referendum and ensuring public awareness of the process.
