President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that housing will be provided to all Maldivian citizens who meet the criteria among those who applied for plots and flats in the government’s planned housing projects in Rasmalé. Speaking on PSM’s “News Chat” program, the President said that there are no obstacles to any housing initiatives conducted specifically for Maldivians due to the “Maldives Waterfront and Marina” project being developed in Rasmalé in collaboration with Dubai’s Eagle Hills. “I assure you that housing will be secured here for everyone who meets the requirements among the citizens who applied for housing and plots. There is enough space. I checked the numbers myself... So, who is left out?” the President said. Under the “Housing for All” policy, the deadline for applying for plots and flats from the Malé region, including Rasmalé, has passed, with 58,505 forms submitted—35,930 for flats and 22,575 for plots. The Housing Ministry is currently analyzing these forms. The President also announced that the list of people who received plots and flats under the first housing scheme of this government will be announced within this year. He said that the entire Rasmalé area will develop alongside the Eagle Hills project on 500 hectares of land, and that companies interested in establishing electricity, water, and sewage systems in Rasmalé exist, with investments easily recovered. The decision to proceed with the Rasmalé Marina project was made so that the government would not have to purchase services such as electricity and water. “So, we do not need to pause development of the remaining 650 hectares like what happened in Hulhumalé. Even after 30 years in Hulhumalé, we are still dealing with unfinished water, sewage, and electricity connections. Hulhumalé became Hulhumalé only because the bridge was built,” the President said. According to the President, Rasmalé will become the most vibrant city within a maximum of 10 years. The President said that opposition parties are speaking against the Rasmalé project to prevent citizens from having these matters completed. He stated that this government will be the first to start projects during its term and provide housing to citizens, with construction of flats in the Malé region to be completed by mid-2028.
