President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his victory in the Brazilian presidential election. In a message sent to the Brazilian President, Dr Muizzu congratulated Lula da Silva on his success in the recently concluded presidential election, offering his sincere greetings on behalf of the Maldivian government and people, as well as in his personal capacity. President Dr Muizzu stated that this electoral victory demonstrates that the Brazilian people have embraced the vision pursued by President Lula da Silva. He also wished Lula da Silva full success in his new term and prayed for his continued good health. The President concluded his message by wishing progress and prosperity for President Lula da Silva, Brazil, and its people. Lula da Silva secured his fourth term as president after winning the second round of the presidential election held on the 25th of this month. This victory, where Lula defeated right-wing Senator Jair Bolsonaro, is unprecedented in modern Brazilian political history. It is the first time since the two-round presidential system was introduced in 1989 that a candidate who finished second in the first round has gone on to win the runoff. Having previously governed Brazil from 2003 to 2010, Lula returned to win the presidency in 2022. He is set to begin his fourth term on the 5th of January next year.
