President Dr. Muizzu Initiates First Full STO Shed in Fishermen's Support Efforts
Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has launched the first full STO (State Trading Organization) shed in R. Dhuvaafaru, marking a significant step in supporting fishermen. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to ensure fishermen receive equitable rates for their catch, particularly in four islands: K. Himmafushi, G. Kooddoo, L. Felivaru, and S. Hulhumale'. The move comes after the government's decision to implement a base rate system, ensuring fishermen receive fair compensation between MVR 80 and MVR 100. The plan also includes establishing mechanisms for fishermen to receive ice and other necessary supplies. The President emphasized the government's commitment to addressing fishermen's challenges, particularly after recent protests demanding better conditions and support.
