Health ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the abolition of the Malé City Group of Hospitals and the establishment of the Maldives Tasheri Hospitals Group, aimed at strengthening health sector management, improving service standards, and ensuring cost-effective operations. Speaking on the PSM series podcast "Nation Chat," the President said the move would eliminate duplications in the health sector and increase management efficiency. Under the new group, all government Tasheri hospitals and government hospitals being developed to Tasheri standards will be integrated into one entity. The President emphasized the goal of sharing resources between hospitals, facilitating the use of doctors' technical services across facilities, and improving the quality of services provided to citizens. He noted that developing the health sector is a key government objective and that efforts to establish Tasheri hospitals nationwide are progressing rapidly. Upgrades to atoll hospitals and island health centers are also underway, aiming to enable citizens to receive quality healthcare services within their own island or atoll. The President stated that hospitals can be integrated under the new system within the next three to four months. The changes will also establish procedures to fully utilize the services of doctors who have received education at government expense, and arrangements will be made to ensure top-tier specialists reside in the country and provide services locally. The President added that efforts to reduce travel abroad for medical purposes are also proceeding quickly.
