President Muizzu Allocates USD 454,000 Annually From Green Fund for Conservation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a new annual allocation of USD 454,000 from the Maldives Green Fund to strengthen environmental protection and conservation initiatives across the archipelago. This funding is designed to bridge persistent financial gaps that have historically hindered the nation's ability to combat climate change and protect its fragile ecosystems. Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, President Muizzu emphasized that the allocation will serve as a supplement to the existing national budget for the environment sector. He highlighted that the lack of adequate financial resources has been one of the primary obstacles in implementing effective climate strategies, making this dedicated fund a critical step toward long-term ecological sustainability. The funding is earmarked for a diverse range of conservation activities. Key priorities include the management of protected areas and wildlife, conducting environmental research, and launching public awareness campaigns. Additionally, the funds will support technical capacity-building and grant opportunities for environmental projects led by schools and civil society organizations. President Muizzu noted that this initiative aligns with the global theme of World Environment Day, "A Global Call for Climate Action."
