President Muizzu and Qatari Ambassador Pledge Expanded Investment and Economic Ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Qatar's newly appointed ambassador, Hamad Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sanad Al-Dosari, have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic cooperation, tourism, and infrastructure development between the two nations. The commitment was solidified during a formal ceremony at the President's Office, where Ambassador Al-Dosari presented his Letter of Credence to the President. The event featured the traditional "Haiykolhu" cultural procession, with the ambassador escorted by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the occasion. Following the ceremony, the President and the ambassador held discussions focusing on a strategic range of mutual interests. Key priorities identified included the expansion of bilateral investment, financial support mechanisms, and the development of critical infrastructure. Both leaders emphasized the potential for growth in the tourism sector, seeking new avenues for collaboration to benefit both economies. President Muizzu drew upon his recent state visit to Qatar to highlight the longstanding and close relationship between the two countries. He noted that the current diplomatic climate provides a strong foundation for expanding these ties into more tangible economic outcomes. The Maldives and Qatar have maintained formal diplomatic relations since May 26, 1984. This latest meeting signals a renewed effort to evolve that historical relationship into a more robust economic partnership, focusing on sustainable development and mutual investment.
