President Muizzu Announces Dollar Payment Gateway for SMEs, Subscription Payments to Be Resolved from November 1

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that from November 1, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Maldives will be able to receive US dollar payments through a gateway provided by Bank of Maldives (BML). This will allow businesses selling goods and services on the international market to accept dollars from anywhere in the world. The President made the announcement during the awards ceremony of Maldives Expo 2026. He said the new arrangement would resolve ongoing difficulties with subscription payments and enable SMEs to use the dollars received via card or remittance to purchase goods and services from abroad without hindrance. The move is expected to remove barriers for SMEs and increase their revenue and profits.
