President Muizzu Announces Two-Year Plan to Boost SMEs

Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled a comprehensive two-year plan dedicated to implementing special measures aimed at advancing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The announcement came following concerns raised by entrepreneurs during a meeting held on 17 December 2025. Muizzu emphasized that the Cabinet of Ministers has already discussed these concerns and taken several decisions to support the sector. Some of these measures are set to be rolled out starting 1 January 2026. A key issue highlighted during the meeting was the unpaid government bills amounting to billions of Maldivian Rufiyaa. In response, Muizzu assured that efforts are underway to settle the most overdue payments before the fasting month of Ramadan. Additionally, arrangements will be made to address these outstanding bills while simultaneously resolving unpaid dues owed to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
