President Muizzu Appoints Fathimath Dhiyana as Ambassador to Belgium and EU

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Dhiyana as the Maldives' Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. The President formally presented the letter of appointment to Dhiyana during a ceremony held at the President's Office. Dhiyana brings an extensive academic background in law and political science to her new diplomatic role. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania in Australia, a Master of Laws in Law and Political Science from Osaka University in Japan, and a Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom. Her appointment follows a distinguished career spanning several senior leadership roles within the Maldivian government and prominent international bodies. Dhiyana previously served as the Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), as well as the Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights. Further adding to her experience, Dhiyana has served as the Attorney General of the Maldives and held legislative roles as a Member of the Parliament and a Member of the People's Special Parliament. This breadth of legal and political expertise is expected to be pivotal in navigating the complexities of European diplomacy. This strategic appointment underscores the Maldives' ongoing commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement with European institutions and enhancing bilateral relations with Belgium.
