President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been conferred an honorary doctorate by the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in the field of Politics and International Relations. The award was presented by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's official residence during President Muizzu's ongoing state visit to Pakistan. Upon receiving the honour, President Muizzu expressed gratitude and dedicated the award to the Maldivian people. His visit marks the first by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in a decade, with the last being former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. Following bilateral talks, the two nations signed 20 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering a wide range of sectors, including technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, anti-drug cooperation, social security, health services, military cooperation, maritime security, agriculture, fisheries, technical and vocational training, education, youth and sports development, air travel, tourism, arts, culture and heritage, police academy collaboration, civil service exchanges, and environment. A key outcome was an agreement to boost bilateral trade from the current $13 million to $200 million within the next two years. President Muizzu described the consultations as broad and productive, highlighting a clear resolve and shared vision to elevate Maldives-Pakistan relations to new heights.
