President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that instead of being enslaved by debt, it is necessary to welcome the dawn of sufficiency. He made these remarks while addressing an official gathering on Nasr Day held at Jumuhiuri Maidan tonight. The President said that just as the country was liberated from the slavery of weapons, the Maldivian nation must also be liberated from the slavery of debt. According to the President, the most fundamental pillar for providing citizens with a sufficient and happy life is the establishment of economic independence in the country. He noted that a country can preserve its own language, religion, and ways only if it has an economy that does not require begging; otherwise, it will always remain in a forced position under the control of those who lend money and subject to their commands, whether agreeable or disagreeable. He also stated that through various warnings issued by different parties about the country going bankrupt, the nation has been protected from danger, the culture of borrowing money has been ended, and the accumulated debts are being paid off and cleared. Furthermore, the President said that as a result of this, the trust of foreign investors towards the Maldives is increasing. Highlighting efforts made to maintain the country's sovereignty and diplomacy, the President stated that a foreign policy that advances the interests of the Maldives has been established, and foreign troops stationed in the Maldives have been sent away. He added that orders to relinquish parts of the Maldives' maritime zones have been brought back, work has begun to recover these areas on the international stage, and the military capability of the national defense force is being enhanced. At the same time, the President highlighted that over 1,000 youths who started training under the Dhivehi Watani Service program to build a national mindset have now become proficient and are entering the job market. Noting that approximately 40 years are approaching for the anniversary of the Nasr Day incident, the President said that the country must prioritize national loyalty and security over political passions and personal ambitions, which risk being forgotten in history. He also stated that flames of prejudice and sectarian strife must be extinguished before national interests, and revolutionary changes that will positively impact the country's finances must be embraced. Reassuring citizens that no action will be taken that diminishes even slightly the Maldives' strong Islamic identity, full sovereignty, and self-reliance, the President stated that every measure taken by the government is aimed at ensuring complete protection and security for national assets.
