President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged Maldivians to leverage the spirit of unity fostered during Eid al-Adha to sustain long-term peace and harmony across the archipelago. In his official address to the nation, the President emphasized that the renewed bonds of kinship and community formed during the holiday serve as a powerful catalyst for national stability.
Addressing the public on the significance of the occasion, President Muizzu encouraged citizens to uphold core Islamic values throughout their celebrations. He specifically called on the public to avoid practices that conflict with traditional Maldivian customs and values, stressing the importance of preserving the nation's cultural identity while celebrating the religious holiday.
The President highlighted the moral imperatives of Eid, noting its role in instilling exemplary values in the youth. He emphasized that true personal fulfillment is found in supporting the most vulnerable and lonely members of society, framing the holiday as a time for compassion and social responsibility.
Reflecting on the global significance of Eid al-Adha, the President described the holiday as an enduring testament to compassion that unites the global Muslim Ummah. He cited the equality experienced on the plains of Arafat as one of the brightest symbols of human empathy, which he believes should resonate within the local community.
Furthermore, President Muizzu noted that traditional practices—such as the slaughtering of Udhhiya, the exchanging of gifts, and providing direct assistance to the poor—are essential for strengthening the social fabric of the Maldives. He described Eid as a season of forgiveness that revitalizes the heart and empowers the community to move forward with collective courage.
By focusing on piety and a renewed determination to follow the true path of faith, the President concluded that the essence of Eid lies in the ability to transform individual spiritual growth into a broader social benefit for all citizens.
