President Muizzu Clarifies: Rasmale Properties Return to Maldivians Only After Payment After 99-Year Lease
Local News ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has clarified that the Rasmale properties sold to the UAE's Eagle Hills will only be returned to Maldivians after the 99-year lease period ends, and even then, only through a purchase requiring payment. Speaking on the program 'The Pulses' produced by PSM, President Muizzu stated that the tenure for properties purchased in Rasmale is 99 years, after which the owner is obligated to sell the property back to the state. He further explained that even if a property owner wishes to sell before the 99-year period ends, they must sell it to the government, which will then decide whether to transfer ownership to another party. This clarification comes after Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib previously stated that the purchased properties would be permanent, and Eagle Hills had stated that a new 99-year lease would begin if a property was sold or inherited before the lease expired.
