President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned an attempted drone attack by Houthi forces targeting Makkah, asserting that any threat to Islam’s holiest site is entirely unacceptable.
In a statement released via his official X account on Wednesday, President Muizzu expressed the Maldives’ unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia. He described the reported incident as deeply offensive to Muslims worldwide, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the holy city.
The President praised the efficiency and swift response of the Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces, noting that their timely intervention was critical in protecting the city of Makkah, its residents, and the thousands of pilgrims visiting the site.
Calling for an immediate cessation of such hostilities, President Muizzu urged all involved parties to avoid further escalation. He emphasized the need to prioritize peace and pursue diplomatic dialogue to prevent further instability in the region.
