President Muizzu Confirms Current Government Funded Boduthakurufaanu Magu Redevelopment Project

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has clarified that the redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is funded by the current administration, addressing social media debates regarding political credit for the project. Speaking on PSM’s ‘Nation Chat’ podcast, the President emphasized that the government's primary focus remains on delivering tangible public benefits rather than seeking political recognition. He stated that the decision to proceed with the development and the subsequent arrangement of funds were initiatives of the current administration. The multi-phase project aims to transform the outer road of Malé into a two-lane thoroughfare, a move expected to significantly reduce congestion on inner city roads and streamline urban transportation. According to the President, the segment stretching from the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area to the Tsunami Building Square is on track for completion by November. Beyond road expansion, the President pledged to enhance the area's aesthetic and functional value by planting coconut palms along the route. He also announced the development of small jetties to alleviate ongoing difficulties faced by launch operators and passengers navigating the capital's waterfront. The project has already seen significant progress, with segments between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and Malé North Harbour now complete. The redevelopment involved reclaiming portions of the lagoon to expand the roadway, installing new asphalting, pavements, and comprehensive drainage systems across a 1.145-kilometre stretch. To address the city's parking challenges, the project also includes a dedicated parking zone capable of accommodating 500 motorcycles.
