President Muizzu Confirms Infrastructure Progress Despite West Asia Conflict Disruptions

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that national development projects are progressing actively despite experiencing slight delays over the last two months caused by the conflict in West Asia. Speaking on PSM News’ ‘Nation Chat’ programme, the President emphasized that the administration remains committed to its infrastructure agenda despite global economic pressures. Over the past two and a half years, the government has launched extensive initiatives across the archipelago, including the construction of island harbours, road networks, and regional airport expansions. A cornerstone of this strategy is land reclamation, with more than 1,100 hectares already reclaimed across 21 islands. This includes 500 hectares dedicated to the Rasmalé development. President Muizzu stressed that while reclamation requires significant financial investment, it is essential for the nation's sustainable development. According to the President, urban development is being integrated into a broader regional strategy. For example, airport locations are strategically chosen to support population consolidation and enhance accessibility. Many water, sanitation, and harbour projects have already reached advanced stages of completion. However, the conflict in West Asia has created logistical hurdles. The administration is currently navigating challenges related to spiking oil prices and difficulties in procuring essential construction materials. President Muizzu noted that while these factors have caused some operational slowdowns, the state is prioritizing healthcare and housing in scenarios where strict resource allocation is required. To mitigate further delays, the President's Office is conducting daily progress reviews in coordination with relevant ministries and stakeholders. These evaluations are designed to implement strategic adjustments and ensure projects stay on track. Concluding his remarks, President Muizzu reaffirmed the administration's commitment to fulfilling its electoral pledges. He stated that while the previous two months saw a minor dip in momentum, all operations are now moving forward, and the government expects highly positive outcomes in the remaining six months of the year.
