President Muizzu Congratulates First National Service Cohort Joining Maldives National Defense Force

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated the first group of national servicemen to officially enlist in the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), marking a significant milestone for the government's newly initiated National Service Programme.
Out of an inaugural cohort of 344 graduates, 137 students from 70 islands across 20 atolls have formally joined the MNDF. These recruits successfully completed the 72nd round of the MNDF Basic Training Course, with several individuals receiving medals for outstanding performance during their tenure.
In a social media statement, President Muizzu described the programme as a cornerstone for developing a patriotic and responsible generation. He emphasized that the initiative is designed to cultivate young Maldivians who are self-confident, spiritually grounded, and physically healthy, ensuring they are prepared to serve the nation with discipline and integrity.
The recruits underwent intensive three-month training at the MNDF Composite Training Centre in Maafilaafushi. The comprehensive curriculum focused on Maldives nationalism, ethics, leadership, religious education, and physical fitness, alongside lessons in responsible citizenship.
The high level of interest in the programme is evident in the application numbers, with 1,785 students vying for a spot in the initiative. This surge suggests a growing inclination among Maldivian youth toward military and civic service as a means of national contribution.
As the first batch transitions into active service, the programme continues to expand. The third cycle is already underway, with 352 students currently deployed for training to further strengthen the nation's reserve of disciplined youth.
