President Muizzu Congratulates PM Modi on Record-Breaking Tenure as India's Prime Minister
Politics ·
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the leader became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister by consecutive days in office.
In a social media statement, President Muizzu praised the milestone, offering warm congratulations to Prime Minister Modi for his historic tenure. The President used the occasion to emphasize the importance of the enduring partnership between the two neighboring nations.
Beyond the congratulatory message, President Muizzu expressed optimism regarding the future of bilateral relations. He stated that the Maldives seeks to further strengthen cooperation with India, grounded in the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared interests.
This diplomatic gesture comes amid a period of active engagement between Malé and New Delhi. Since President Muizzu assumed office, both leaders have conducted high-level official visits to each other's countries to refine their strategic partnership.
A key outcome of these recent interactions is the progress toward a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both nations have already signed the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the agreement, laying the groundwork for enhanced economic ties and trade facilitation.
The timing of the exchange is particularly significant as the Maldives and India mark the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year. The anniversary serves as a backdrop for ongoing efforts to expand cooperation across various sectors, ranging from infrastructure development to security and trade.
