President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Maldives is transitioning into a robust and decentralized system following the implementation of the MVR 2.7 billion project. Speaking on the occasion of Anti-Corruption Day, the President emphasized that the nation is moving towards a governance model that ensures accountability, transparency, and the protection of citizens' fundamental rights. The President highlighted the government's commitment to eliminating corruption, strengthening democratic institutions, and enhancing public trust in the system. He also outlined the government's efforts to digitize public services, introduce anti-corruption tools, and establish an anti-corruption academy as part of the 'Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation' initiative. The President stressed that the Maldives' membership in the UN Convention Against Corruption reflects the nation's dedication to eradicating corruption and promoting good governance. However, concerns have been raised about the government's handling of major financial projects and the lack of transparency in certain decisions. The opposition has criticized the government for suspending key figures in anti-corruption efforts and questioned the effectiveness of the current policies.
