Health ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has dissolved the governing boards of Malé City Group of Hospitals (MCGH) and five other hospitals, and established the Maldives Tertiary Hospitals Group (MTHG). The change, announced by the President's Office, aims to strengthen the government's health system by operating tertiary hospitals and those being developed to tertiary standards under a single governing board in a hybrid centralized model. The dissolved boards include those of MCGH, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Ungufaru Regional Hospital, Gan Regional Hospital, Dr. Abdusamad Memorial Hospital, and Addu Equatorial Hospital. The new 18-member MTHG governing board will operate under the President's guidance, accountable to him and linked to the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare. The Principal Secretary to the President for Tertiary Health Services will oversee the board's affairs. Dr. Abdulazeez Yusuf (V. Aqeel), former Chairperson of MCGH, has been appointed as Chairperson, with Hussein Haleem as Vice Chairperson. The board includes technical experts, representatives from the health and finance ministries, hospital CEOs, and officials from across the Maldives. The MTHG will manage 12 facilities including Darumaatha Hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Hulhumale Hospital, Vilimalé Hospital, Maldives Blood Services, the Thalassemia and Adar Hemoglobinopathy Centre, and regional hospitals in Kulhudhuffushi, Addu, Ungufaru, Dr. Abdusamad Memorial, Gan, and Fuwwahmulah.
