President Muizzu Expands National Service Programme with Specialized Training and Internships

World ·
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the introduction of specialized fields and internship opportunities under the National Service Programme, marking the first anniversary of the initiative's launch on October 1 last year. The expansion aims to diversify the pathways available to Maldivian youth, moving beyond basic training to provide targeted professional development. This new phase will also see an expanded role for the National Career Service, which will work to bridge the gap between training completion and sustainable employment for participants. Reflecting on the programme's inaugural year, the President reported that the government surpassed its initial goal of training 1,000 young people. According to official figures, 1,028 youth completed the National Service Initial Training, while an additional 136 participants underwent the National Service Skill Training Programme. In a social media statement commemorating the anniversary, President Muizzu congratulated the graduates and their families, describing the programme as a vital tool for shaping the future of the nation's youth. He emphasized that the initiative was launched with the determination to create entirely new opportunities for the younger generation. The National Service Programme was designed not only as a vocational tool but as a means of fostering national spirit and Islamic values. By integrating discipline and civic duty, the government seeks to develop citizens with a profound commitment to serving the Maldives and a strong sense of national pride. With more than 1,000 participants having already completed training across three batches, the government now shifts its focus toward specialization. By introducing internships and specialized fields, the administration aims to ensure that the discipline and skills acquired during national service translate directly into the professional workforce, strengthening the country's human capital.
