President Muizzu Expresses Solidarity with China After Deadly Coal Mine Explosion

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his deepest condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping following a devastating gas explosion at the Liushenyu Coal Mine in Shanxi Province. The disaster, which occurred on Friday, has become one of China's worst mining accidents in nearly two decades.
In an official message, President Muizzu expressed profound sadness over the tragedy, which has claimed numerous lives and left many others injured. On behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, he conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the families bereaved by the event, emphasizing the Maldives' unwavering support and solidarity with China during this period of mourning.
The President further wished strength and resilience to the victims and the affected communities. He expressed hope for the success of the ongoing rescue and recovery operations currently being conducted by Chinese authorities at the site of the blast.
According to official reports, the explosion occurred at the Liushenyu shaft in Shanxi province. Authorities stated that there were 247 workers underground at the time of the incident. As of the latest updates, 82 people have been confirmed dead, with recovery efforts continuing to locate remaining workers.
