President Muizzu Guarantees Fair Allocation for 'Housing for All' Scheme
World ·
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged that the government’s ambitious “Housing for All” project will be conducted with total transparency, remaining entirely free from political interference or external influence.
Speaking during the second episode of PSM’s 'Nation Chat' programme, the President asserted that his administration is committed to ending a history of preferential treatment. He noted that while influential individuals or groups may have manipulated housing allocations under previous governments, such practices will have no place in the current system.
To ensure an equitable distribution, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has initiated a rigorous cross-verification process for all applicants. President Muizzu emphasized that every application will be treated equally, regardless of social standing or political connection, and that no priority order will be granted in the allocation of flats or land.
The scale of the demand is significant, with the government receiving more than 35,900 applications for flats and over 22,000 applications for land. The President expressed confidence in the integrity of the verification teams, stating that the process is designed to be strict enough to prevent even minor compromises.
Beyond fairness, the administration is focusing on speed of delivery. Unlike previous terms where housing applications were often opened late—leaving a logistical burden for successor governments—this project aims for rapid completion. The government expects most of the housing projects to be finished within the next two years.
By prioritizing both integrity and efficiency, the administration aims to address housing as a fundamental right, ensuring that the project delivers tangible results for Maldivian citizens within the current term.
