President Muizzu Guarantees Social Housing Security Despite New Rasmalé Commercial Venture

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the public that the introduction of a major commercial venture on Rasmalé will not disrupt or cancel government social housing initiatives. The President emphasized that the 'Maldives Waterfront and Marina' project, developed by Abu Dhabi-based Eagle Hills, is designed to complement social objectives while driving national economic growth. Addressing concerns over project timelines during a 'Nation Chat' appearance, President Muizzu acknowledged initial hurdles typical of large-scale infrastructure projects. However, he confirmed these obstacles have been resolved, and development is now proceeding rapidly according to the administration's original commitments. Land reclamation is currently 70 percent complete and is expected to be finished within two to three months. This process will create 1,100 hectares of new land, which the President described as a substantial capital asset that will secure habitable space for future generations. President Muizzu explicitly guaranteed that residential land allocations and flat construction projects remain secure. "There is sufficient land to allocate plots for everyone. Not a single land plot will be cancelled," he stated, adding that application forms are currently under review to grant plots to eligible citizens. The strategic partnership with a foreign entity is intended to unlock long-term development, create employment, and improve livelihoods across the Maldives. The President noted that while the overall master plan is a 10-year undertaking, the government is finalizing utility infrastructure contracts to ensure installation begins early next year. Designed as a carbon-neutral smart city, Rasmalé will integrate advanced digital technology and fully accessible public services for persons with disabilities. Once complete, the urban center is expected to provide housing security for approximately 65,000 citizens, blending modern community infrastructure with environmental sustainability.
