President Muizzu Hails 700 Young Khateebs as Beacons of Islamic Spirit

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the nation's emerging young khateebs as "beacons" capable of revitalizing the religious spirit within communities across the Maldives. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Young Khateebs Symposium on Sunday, the President emphasized the critical role youth play in promoting and preserving religious knowledge. This initiative comes as the Maldives commemorates 900 years since the country's conversion to Islam. The training of over 700 young individuals as khateebs is viewed as a significant development, providing a fresh source of strength to the country's Islamic identity and ensuring the continuity of religious leadership. During his address, President Muizzu highlighted the historical precedent of youth leadership in Islamic scholarship. He paid tribute to previous generations of young Maldivians who made significant sacrifices, traveling abroad at a young age to pursue advanced religious studies. He noted that the contribution of the youth in spreading, defending, and upholding Islam remains a cornerstone of both Maldivian and broader Islamic history. Looking toward the future, the President stated that these young khateebs are positioned to become influential teachers. He noted their potential to strengthen Islamic morality and shape the intellectual and spiritual outlook of future generations. Concluding his remarks, President Muizzu urged the new cohort of religious leaders to champion values of human dignity, kindness, peace, and security, ensuring that their leadership fosters a harmonious society.
