President Muizzu Hails Deep Brotherhood and Strategic Ties With Saudi Arabia

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the relationship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia as a profound partnership that extends far beyond traditional diplomatic ties, rooted in shared faith, values, and a deep sense of brotherhood. Speaking at a reception commemorating the 96th National Day of Saudi Arabia at Niva Kurumba Maldives, the President emphasized that the bond between the two nations is strengthened by cultural similarities, specifically highlighting the shared tradition of hospitality and values of courage and generosity. President Muizzu praised Saudi Arabia’s leadership on the international stage, noting its commitment to global stability, peace, and development. He specifically acknowledged the critical support Saudi Arabia has provided the Maldives across key sectors, including healthcare, housing, transport, and fisheries. The President also recalled the Kingdom's pivotal assistance in rebuilding the nation following the devastating 2004 tsunami. A significant highlight of the address was the signing of the Charter of the Multinational Maritime Defence. President Muizzu described this as a milestone in bilateral relations, stressing that as an island nation, the Maldives relies heavily on maritime security and freedom of navigation for its continued prosperity and security. Looking toward future cooperation, the President expressed enthusiasm for the Maldives' participation in Expo 2030 in Riyadh. He noted that the event will serve as a strategic platform to enhance tourism, drive innovation, and attract new investments while fostering stronger people-to-people connections. On a socio-religious level, the President lauded the Mecca Route Initiative for simplifying the Hajj and Umrah journeys for Maldivian pilgrims. He further cited the King Salman Mosque in Malé as a lasting symbol of Saudi generosity and a physical testament to the religious ties binding the two countries. Concluding his remarks, President Muizzu reflected on the Saudi National Day slogan, “Our Pride is in Our Nature,” stating that these principles represent a character and direction that the Maldives respects and admires.
