In a social media message, the President described the scholar as a towering figure among the nation's academics whose loss is felt deeply across the country. Originally from Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll, Sheikh Ismail was a recipient of the National Award of Honour. He was widely celebrated for his lifelong commitment to the faith and his extensive efforts to elevate Islamic awareness and religious education throughout the archipelago. President Muizzu highlighted that Sheikh Ismail's influence extended far beyond the classroom. He spent his career disseminating religious knowledge across the Maldives and was instrumental in securing higher education opportunities abroad for numerous students pursuing religious studies. As a foundational instructor, Sheikh Ismail mentored many individuals who now hold key positions and continue to provide essential services to the nation. His intellectual legacy is further cemented by his dedication to translating and publishing critical religious texts into Dhivehi, making complex theological knowledge accessible to the local population. The President extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, offering prayers for the late scholar to be granted the mercy and blessings of Paradise and the forgiveness of Almighty Allah.
