President Muizzu Honors Literary and Public Figures with Top State Awards

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has conferred the nation's highest honors upon two distinguished figures for their lifelong contributions to Maldivian culture and public service. During the official National Day ceremony in Utheemu, Haa Alifu Atoll, Ahmed Shakir received the Order of the Dignified Rule of the Dhiyamigili Dynasty, while Mohamed Amir Ahmed was presented with the National Award of Honour. Ahmed Shakir's career spans over four decades of diverse service. Beginning his journey at the Government Printing Press in 1969, Shakir evolved into a multifaceted intellectual, actor, and historian. He gained early prominence through the 'Olympians' theatrical troupe and later became a pivotal figure in Maldivian television, scripting and starring in landmark productions such as 'Ghaazee Bandaarain'. Beyond the arts, Shakir is recognized as a premier historian. Commissioned by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, he authored the comprehensive 640-page volume 'Maldives in the Twentieth Century' and documented the institutional histories of numerous state bodies, including the Maldives Monetary Authority and the Ministry of Finance. His commitment to lifelong learning is evidenced by earning a Master of Shariah at age 69. Mohamed Amir Ahmed was honored for his profound impact on Dhivehi literature and education. A mentor and academic, Amir has taught 16 degree courses at the Maldives National University and authored 11 academic papers on poetic structure. His influence extends to the national curriculum, having spent 17 years at the Educational Development Centre drafting textbooks and syllabi for secondary students. He currently serves as the Director General of the National Archives of Maldives. The ceremony also recognized broader societal contributions. The National Award of Honour was granted to Ibrahim Rasheed for architecture, Najma Hussain for information dissemination, and the Society for Health Education. Additionally, eight individuals and one company received the National Award of Recognition across fields ranging from religious education and healthcare to sports and visual arts, including a posthumous award for the late Ihusan Abdul Ghanee.
